Martin Luther Day is Coming

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is an American federal holiday that marks the birth of the civil rights movement advocate Martin Luther King, is around the corner. Considering the influence of Dr. King on civil rights movements, it is interesting to take a look at what people across the nation say about this upcoming holiday on Twitter.
On Twitter, the overall online conversation volume is more than three thousand. A majority of these online tweets yielded positive sentiments toward the Martin Luther King holiday. The positivity can be reflected by the tweet such as the one from Lauren Coffey. Inspired by King’s spirit, people try to help each other as members of a community.
Cities or States announced their plans of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy on next Monday holiday. For instance, the City of Philadelphia stated on its Twitter official account that they would organize project presentations, training workshops, job fairs, and civic engagement expo on Girard College for celebrating their 24th annual Greater Philadelphia King Day of Service. The overall theme for their celebration will be a world without gun violence.
In addition, individuals also came up with ideas of how to celebrate Martin Luther King’s holiday. For example, through tweeting a New York Times article, Steven Soifer, who is an associate professor at University of Maryland School of Social Work, offered suggestions on four different ways of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy next Monday.
Although Dr. King has passed away, the online conversation about the holiday of his name indicates that his spirit never fades away. His legacy is very well remembered. He inspired people across generations to do good deeds to the community, to help the others out, and to be an active part of civic engagement.
