As the next major hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean moves closer to the United States, so has its presence on social media.

On Wednesday, Tropical Storm Dorian became Hurricane Dorian, as it moved to a category one hurricane. This as its sustained winds were recorded at 75 miles per hour, according to CNN. On early Wednesday afternoon, the hurricane was directly over St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, still 1,104 miles away from Miami.

Per The Weather Channel, Dorian is forecast to become a category three hurricane, but its path will depend on the placement of an area of high pressure over the north-mid Atlantic known as the ‘Bermuda High.’ The network’s early projection is for Hurricane Dorian to make landfall somewhere between south Florida and Savannah, Georgia in the wee hours of Monday morning, with sustained winds at 115 miles per hour.

Not surprisingly, Dorian has become a trending topic on social media, notably Twitter, over the past couple of days. Over the past five days, Dorian has been mentioned in 69,000 tweets, just over 30,000 in the past 24 hours.
